Setting: Road heading northwest from the Fist
Cast: Party, Elle
.
Regardless of whether the PCs wish to head to Canton Falls or back to Eben’s Spur they will have to leave by the same route. They will probably depart The Fist at first light since their audience the night before took place near dark.
A storm moves in over night, so road is wet and muddy and visibility has been cut to fifty or sixty feet through the sheets of rain. Flashes of lightning occasionally light the sky, followed by deep rolling thunder.
.
Events
- Have PCs make a DC 20 perception check as they are approaching a bend on the road. It’s not too far before the road splits north and west, where they’d have to decide which direction to go. If they make it they think they see movement. If they make 25 they definitely see a humanoid figure duck behind a rock.
- Six consumed are waiting in ambush. They are controlled by Vala, who is waiting out of sight in the trees perhaps a hundred yards away. She doesn’t want to risk being seen, so if the PCs dispatch her minions she will quietly retreat.
- Vala is using one of the consumed as a puppet, which is why the PCs saw movement. She can see through it’s eyes, and it will be more intelligent that the others. The consumed will rush the group, attacking whichever target is closest. All save the intelligent leader, who will attempt to kill Elle at all costs. She is targeted because she has a measure of influence over Vestes.
- The encounter will trigger the true power of Tobius’s armor. It will quickly grow to encase his entire body, and will sprout thorns. He may also grow a redwood weapon of the appropriate type, including a scythe if he so desires.
.
Encounter
- Four Consumed. These consumed are relatively weak and only have 20hp each. The problem is that they cannot be reduced below -5 unless they are destroyed with fire or a redwood stake. They have fast heal 5, which means two rounds after they are knocked down they get back up.
- Consumed deal d8 +4 damage on a claw, and 2d6 +4 on a bite. They have one bite and two claws each round.
