Canton Falls is a large town at the head of a waterfall where the Canton River spills into Lake Canton. It is the last town on the river before it meets the lake, and any boats that come down river must unload here, as they will be destroyed if they try to go over the falls.
The town has a large supply of mules that are trained to carry goods down the steep trail that descends nearly a thousand feet to the valley floor next to the lake. From there goods can be loaded on boats to cross the lake, or taken overland to cities throughout the nation.
The Canton River runs from the Khalist Mountains, so lumber companies and mining operations often make use of it to move their goods. For this reason there is always a steady flow of business heading through Canton Falls.
Because it is such a major trading hub the city has attracted a large contingent of mercenaries, as well as a chapterhouse for the Adventurer’s Guild. Canton falls has a mayor, which is unusal since most recognized towns or cities have a governor. This is because Canton Falls is very independent, and barely consider themselves part of Valys much less Hasra.
They pay tribute directly to Valys, though it is a smaller amount than most towns their size would be expected to pay. Most people theorize that this is because it’s not worth antagonizing them over a few hundred extra silver a month.
