Scene 15- Returning to Eben’s Spur

Setting: Road from Eben’s Spur to The Fist

Cast: Party, Elle

Once the party has finished the fight with the consumed they will have to decide what to do.  It is possible that they will choose to head back to the Fist, and if they do I’ll play it by ear.  However, Elle will recommend that they return to Eben’s Spur.  It’s obvious there is a faction in The Fist that want’s them dead, and if they return they will be targets.

Assuming they head back to Eben’s Spur they will find it slow going, because the storm doesn’t relent for the entire trip.  Fierce lightning cuts the sky, while sheets of rain drench them during the day.  This hinders their progress, making the return trip take three days instead of the usual two.

Events

- During the first evening Tobius the hawk returns to the party.  He is missing tail feathers and one of his eyes is crusted shut with blood.  There is an arrowhead lodged in his side, and he is near death.  There is a note tied to his leg in Daffyd’s handwriting, “Return quickly with any aid you can find.  Town under seige- Daffyd”.

- This message could prompt the players to head for Canton Falls, so be prepared for that eventuality.  However, Elle will recommend heading for Eben’s Spur or possibly back to the Fist.  She will argue that it could take weeks to return with help, and by that time the town could be wiped out.

- It’s also possible they may return to The Fist to gather help.  If they do so Terent is willing to detach a squad of twenty-five men, including Jory.  He will place them under Grond’s leadership.  This is a big risk on his part.  Ana will also agree to go, as will Cara.  Both are battlemages.  If they choose not to return Elle will suggest sending the hawk with a message for Terent.

- The party will not encounter anyone along the road back to town, until they get close enough to see it.  The Bone Eaters have left a rear guard of roughly 25 orokh to guard their trail, but because the party is arriving in late evening their approach is covered by the rain.  This group can be circumvented, or the PCs can engage as they choose.  If they engage they will get a full surprise round.  If they brought the knights from The Fist this will be an easy fight.

- The noise from combat will be hidden by the rain and thunder, so the PCs are fairly certain they haven’t been seen.  Some scouting will reveal that there are nearly a thousand orokh camped outside the wall.  The wall is damaged in places, but the orokh don’t seem in a hurry to attack.  It should be obvious that they are keeping the town bottled up, but probably fear the casualties that would occur if they invaded the town itself.

- The PCs can get into the town however the wish, but probably the easiest way is to sneak in via the river.  This will be more challenging if the knight’s came, but they can either wait outside the walls in a small grove of trees or the can chop down logs and use them to float into the docks.
