Scene 21- Ambushing a Dreadlord

Cast: Party, Tal, Elle, Martos

Setting:  Campsite on a hillside not far from the Skull

.

The party watches as Nebiat’s orokh shamblers trudge up the muddy road.  Their friends, neighbors and loved ones have been gathered into a huge column, and are marching up the road under the close supervision of the shamblers.

At the column’s head Nebiat rides a black charger.  At her side are a massive Orokh with a two handed sword and Egren.

Events

- Nebiat will walk straight into the ambush the PCs have prepared.  Have them make a survival check to set the perception DC of their ambush.

- When Martos uses the Amulet a wave of clear energy will pulse out in a ring, almost faster than the eye will follow.  All undead within a several hundred yard radius are instantly destroyed and their bodies tumble to the ground.  This will include all 300 orokh shamblers.

- Once the ambush is sprung Nebiat will swirl a cloak around her shoulders, instantly disappearing.  She’s using a Dream Tiger Cloak.  Her Orokh lieutenant will charge the party in a rage, while Egren will turn his mount and flee.

- Once the party engages her orokh Nebiat will cast Dominate Person on Grond.  She will retreat to range and observe combat.  If the party seems to be winning she will flee.  If she thinks she has a chance of winning she will cast additional spells such as eyebite or more dominates.

- She needs to approach within fifty feet to cast her spell, so it is vaguely possible the party could become aware of her.  Also, after she casts the spell she will become visible, which will grant the party a perception check.  Have her make a stealth roll to set DC.  If the party doesn’t see her she’ll replace the cloak and retreat.

- After the orokh has been dealt with and Grond is subdued Nebiat will flee back to Kelbreth, abandoning her plan and allowing the party to reclaim the prisoners.

- Tal will take the amulet from Martos’s corpse using an illusion to cloak the action.  As soon as combat is over he’ll stealth away, leaving the party to their own devices.  Tal has a belt of flying that works for five minutes, and will use this to cover any trail he might leave.

- The party may have a rough time chasing either Nebiat or Tal as they have just under a thousand refugees to take care of.  The townsfolk are weak, underfed and many are sick from exposure.

- Terwynn’s wife has survived her captivity, though she is tired and a bit malnourished.  She is extremely proud of Terywnn and more than willing to tell anyone who will stop to listen how great her husband is.

- Tobius the hawk is perched on Terwynn’s wife.  She will tell the party that the bird brought her hope, because she knew it meant Terwynn was coming to help.

- The people will need some source of food.  They are already getting near to starving, and the only place that might have enough to feed them is Brenner’s fields.  The party still has the 1,200 silver they obtained from the cart, which might give them enough coin to barter for food.
