Rella comes from a long line of sailors. Her parents, grandparents, cousins aunts and uncles all served on one vessel or another. Collectively they share a love of the ocean, and none likes being far from it for long.
Rella is 26 years old and has been a captain for two years. She started her career at age 14 as a cabin girl, and worked her way up to captain by the age of 24. She is driven, resourceful, intelligent and beautiful.
Captaining her own vessel has always been Rella’s dream, and she saved every last silver that came her way for over a decade to purchase the Zephyr. She gathered a small crew to help her run the vessel, which requires three men to keep running.
Rella deals primarily in silks from Enestius and crafted metals from Valys. She has occasionally sailed down to the south sea, but prefers to make her living on the lake. Her first mate is a beefy man named Rolf, who is overprotective and wise.
Rella doesn’t often take on passengers, because they tend to cause problems and clutter her ship. The Zephyr is a two masted cog (12th century ship). It has a sterncastle just large enough for her to have cramped quarters. The rest of the crew sleeps on the deck, or in the hold if there is no cargo. The ship has a crew of 12 and requires six people to run it at any given time.
