Maker’s Touch- the caster has the ability to imbue materials with magic.  If the material is non-magical they can convert it into a magical material by investing 50 points.  This enchants enough material to create one eldimagus, and must be applied to each material separately.  So if a caster wishes to enchant a ruby and then enchant steel to make a sword they must invest 100 magic points.

This process does not need to happen all at once, so a character may store a bit of his magical energy each day until he reaches the required amount.

Maker’s touch also grants a second ability, this one far more unique.  The caster may imbue an eldimagus with more magical energy, allowing it to have an enhancement bonus one higher than it would normally qualify for based on it’s core materials.

This is accomplished by tracing magical runes along the length of the blade or on some part of the eldimagus.  These runes are unique to those bearing the Maker’s Touch, and cannot be duplicated through any other known means.

The third and final ability granted by the Maker’s Touch is temporary, but no less powerful.  The bearer may use the Magic Weapon spell twice a day to enchant the weapon of his chosing.  As the catalyst is 11th level this grants a +3 bonus to those weapons.

History

The Forge of Reevanthara is a site of special importance, far more so even than other catalysts.  It marks the place where the great cycle came into existence, for it is where the maker himself forged the world out of the void.

Reevanthara was known as the great smith because of the wonders he created.  Those wonders originated from his forge, which sits in the heart of what are now known as the Khalist Mountains.

At the conclusion of the Godswar Reevanthara was presumed killed and the white hot eternal flames of the forge were dark for the first time in millenia.  They did not remain so for long.  The siren song of the forge attracted thousands of untyped trolls.

These trolls catalized into dwarves and began building a civilization they believed their god would have been proud of.  Like their god the dwarves were craftsmen, finding joy in the creation of beautiful things.  They used the forge to make eldimagi far surpassing those of other enchanters.

This was possible both because of the dwarves’ immense skill, and because of the materials they had available to work with.  The most potent of these were the iron, copper and tin in the mountains surrounding the forge.

When Reevanthara fled his forge during the war he was under attack by other elder gods.  He sustained grevious wounds, and his blood rained from the sky.  It drenched the mountains below, and the rocks drank the blood like the parched desert after a storm.  The blood imbued the minerals with the divine power of the maker himself.

These materials were made into two of the most fabulous metals ever discovered.  Enurian Steel and it’s weaker cousin, Enurian Bronze.  Enurian Steel weapons and armor were could sheer through lesser metals as if they were wood.  They were lighter than their counterparts and far, far stronger.

Add in the fact that the Enurian dwarves were the finest enchanters in the world, and that they had the forge of Reevanthara to craft their wonders and it is unsurprising that their weapons were famed the world over.

Unfortunately while the dwarves of Enuria were unparalleled craftsmen they were only middling warriors.  They lacked the strength to defend themselves from those who would strip them of their creations.  So they sought an alliance with those who could.

The Orokh tribes of the plains of Arlen were some of the fiercesest plainsrunners the world had ever known.  All who valued their lives feared their might.  The dwarves sent emmisaries with kingly gifts of Enurian steel weapons and armor for the chieftains of the greatest orokh tribes.

All the dwarves asked in turn was protection.  If the orokh agreed to build a small city near the Khalist mountains the dwarves would supply them with the most fabulous weapons and armor the world had ever seen.

The orokh eagerly ageed and a bargain was struck between the two races.  For the next nine hundred years the orokh protected the Enurians, while the dwarves created a seemingly endless array of wonderful eldimagi.

All things eventually come to an end, and so it was with Enuria.  The dwarves had mined all the Enurian iron and could find no other sources.  They were unable to craft Enurian Steel, the lifeblood of their economy.  As a compromise they used Enurian tin and copper to make Enurian Bronze.  It was heavier than Enurian Steel and couldn’t hold an edge in quite the same way, but it was still a potent metal that could hold great enchantments.

The dwarves began selling Enurian Bronze for a lesser price than they’d charged for their steel, but the reception was dim.  The kings and princes seeking Enurian Steel were not placated by Enurian Bronze.  They had no use for large heavy weapons and armor.  They wanted the steel, which was superior in virtually every way.

Yet these disgruntled clients had little choice.  There was simply no more Enurian Steel to be had, the dwarves claimed.  This angered the nobility of Hasra, Arlen and Lukantria.  House Enestius capitalized on this sentiment, concocting an ingenious plan to gain great wealth.

They approached Lukantria and Arlen and brokered a deal between them.  The proposal was simple.  All three factions would work together to overrun Enuria.  They would take whatever Enurian Steel the dwarves were holding, and reclaim the vast wealth that had been paid to the dwarves over the last several centuries.

The coalition fell on the orokh guardians, wiping them out with ruthless efficiency.  Within six months they’d destroyed them utterly, and Enuria fell soon after.  Every dwarf was put to the sword, and the collective works of a thousand year old culture were looted and carried back to Enestius, Arlen and Lukantria.

The few surviving Enurian Bladesmiths were horrified by the destruction of their people.  Some left to find other sources of Enurian Iron so that they could continue to work the fabulous metal.  Others chose to stay behind and attempt to rebuild their culture.

Those who stayed behind gathered together the few survivors.  As untyped trolls were drawn to the catalyst they gathered them as well.  Eventually those trolls catalized into new dwarves, and their population began to expand again.

This time the dwarves were far more cautious.  They retreated to a warren of tunnels underneath the forge that they dubbed the Underhome.  The Underhome allowed them to access the forge, but also to retreat if and when hostile invaders came into the ruins of Enuria.

For the two decades these dwarves have lived in quiet fear of another invasion.  They are careful, crafty and quiet.  Their survival is the most important thing to them, as they cling to the remains of their once great civilization.
