Touch of Xalegos- Xalegos was a mighty warrior in life, but has become a vengeful spectre in death.  Those who bear his touch gain the ability to drain the life of others to fuel their own abilities.  They may cast vampiric touch as a spell like ability.  In addition they gain six spell points.  Also, if they are slain their spirit will animate their body for a number of rounds equal to their con modifier + 3.  If they are able to restore enough hit points through vampiric touch then they will no longer die when this ability expires.

History

During the final days of the Godswar The Dragon was one of the most hated and feared of the Elder Gods.  It consumed dozens of younger gods, feasting on their souls and gaining great power as it did.  The younger gods knew that The Dragon needed to be dealt with, so the mighty warrior Xalegos assembled a dozen of his peers to aid him in it’s destruction.  They knew such a fight would be costly, but it must be accomplished no matter the price.

They ambushed The Dragon in the skies above what is now Olivantia.  Their assault was vicious and caught the mighty Elder God off guard, yet it’s strength was so great that it refused to be beaten.  Three younger gods were eaten during the fight.  Seven more were slain, their corpses littering the ground below even as their blood rained from the sky.

Xalegos landed a mighty blow, his spear piercing The Dragon’s heart.  Yet even as he struck the blow he was decapitated by a single swipe from the beast’s massive tail.  His body was snapped up and eaten, while his head plumetted to the ground below.

It struck the side of a mountain, flattening it much as a child would a shrub.  The skull was trapped within the mountain, and Xalegos’s spirit was trapped within the skull.  His spirit longed to continue its journey through the great cycle, but cannot move on due to the violent nature of his death and the immense power contained within the skull.

The skull blazes like a second sun within the spirit realm, drawing many spirit trolls just as any other catalyst would.  These spirits seek a way to come closer to the skull, inhabiting any body they can find in the mortal realm.

These spirits come in three different forms.  The most basic reanimate corpses, but possess little innate intelligence.  Dead trees, dead animals or dead people…it matters not to the spirit.  For this reason much of the forest surrounding the skull is haunted by a variety of shamblers and haunted trees.

The next stage of trolls are wights, more intelligent, stronger versions of the shamblers.  The wights worship the skull, diligently guarding it against all intruders.  Those who tresspass are killed by the wights, quickly rising to join their unholy brethren.

The final stage of troll is quite rare, but immensely powerful.  Those few trolls who evolve far enough become the highly feared lich.  These powerful undead rule over the other undead as gods, and both their servants are quick to do their bidding.

Early in his reign Olivanticus journied to the Skull and approached the trio of liches that ruled the vast army of wights and shamblers.   He was powerful enough to destroy them, but realized this would serve no purpose.  Instead he recruited them.

If they would allow his dreadlords to catalize and serve in his armies he would allow them control of the Skull.  He would also guarantee that no one approached without their leave, which allowed the liches to grow stronger and increase the numbers of their followers.

During the purge the Hasran forces descended on the Skull.  The followers of Celeste and Aelianna destroyed thousands of wights and shamblers, but the liches were smart enough to flee rather than be destroyed.

They hid in the caverns deep under the skull until the Hasran’s left.  Afterwards they emerged and began creating new armies, safe since the Hasran’s believed them destroyed.  They have spent the last fifteen years building their strength, and have become nearly as powerful as they were at the height of Olivanticus’s reign.
