Shattered Gods allows you to generate just about any type of fantasy character you’d like to play. From the devestating powerful Battlemage to the highly skilled Warmaster the possibilities are nearly endless.
You should begin with a character concept. Does your character wield a massive battleaxe, hacking down any foe foolish enough to challenge him? Or perhaps he keeps to the shadows, drifting through hallways like a ghost as he carries off the lich’s treasure.
Once you’ve settled on a concept it’s time to begin building the character. You’ll need a Character Sheet, which is located at the back of this book or online at www.shatteredgods.com. If you have an iPad or iPhone you can also download the Evil Dice application, which gives you access to a virtual character sheet.
Everything from your character’s name to their abilities will be recorded on this sheet. You will use the following steps to create your character:
Step 1—Determine Your Ability Scores: You will begin by generating your character’s ability scores. These include Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisa. Details of each are given in the next section. These are your character’s most basic attributes and are used to determine just about everything about your character. Some classes require a specific ability to be higher than average in order for you to select it.
Step 2— Select An Archetype: An Archetype determines your character’s basic personality. It provides certain bonuses to attributes, and makes a specific skill a class skill.
Step 3—Choose A Race: Next, choose a race, adding modifiers to ability scores and recording racial traits. The available races are listed in the next section, but with GM permission you may select or create alternate races.
Step 4—Determine Initial Catalization: Characters in Shattered Gods are Godtouched, meaning that they have innate abilities. In step 4 you will select a starting catalization.
Step 5—Select A Class: A character’s class represents a profession, such as Warmaster of Druid. The cahracter begins at 1st level in the class of their choosing. As they gain experience points (XP) the character will advance in level, granting new powers and abilities.
Step 6—Choose Skills and Feats: Calculate the skill ranks your character has, based on class and Intelligence modifier (and any other bonuses, such as the bonus received by humans). You may spend up to your character level on any given skill. After your skills have been chosen, determine your starting feats, based on class and level. You may select feats from those presented in the Feats chater.
Step 7—Purchase Equipment: Each new character begins the game with a quanity of gold determined by the GM. The player may spend this gold to purchase equipment or even magic items if your GM provides enough gold to do so.
Step 8—Finishing Touches: The bulk of your character is done, but you still have a few touches to add. Record starting hit points (hp), Armor Class (AC), saving throws, initiative modifier, and base attack values. These numbers are determined by your decisions in previous steps. You will also need to select a character name. If you need help doing so you can use the Shatterd Gods Name Generator available both online and in the Evil Dice application. After selecting a name choose your character’s physical appearance.
