The Djinn

Attribute Modifiers: +2 DEX, +2CHA

Racial Abilities: Magic, Elemental Resistance.  

The Djinn are the oldest race known to still exist.  They were created in the dream realm, but posses the ability to flit between realms at will.  Most choose to dwell in the relative chaos of the dream realm, but a few have made the mortal realm into a more permanent home.

These djinn typically form settlements in whatever environmental extreme fits their specific subtype.  Efreeti are most often found in the blasted lands.  Ghul are most often found in the ashlands.  Marid are most often found on lakes or oceans.  Shaitan are most often found in the dream realm or near a dream catalyst.

Djinn have much more volatile emotions than other races, which has led to the maxim you do not wish to taste the anger of a djinn.  Djinn are more passionate, more prone to a temper, more affected by sadness…they just feel more than most other races.

Most people assume Djinn are powerful sorcerers, and some even believe that if you capture a djinn it will be forced to grant three wishes.  Both of these are patently false.  Djinn are no more or less likely to have magic, and they possess no special power to grant another’s wish.

That doesn’t mean the djinn are powerless, however.   They have several abilities depending on their type.  All djinn have the fast move ability.  This doubles their speed, but cannot be used in combat.  Basically they partially phase into the dream realm, which vastly increases their speed and makes them harder to see.

Add djinn can also phase into the dream realm at will.  This makes an excellent defense mechanism, and it’s not uncommon for an entire tribe to disappear if threatened.  Unfortunately, djinn cannot take anything with them so their possessions are left behind.

Specific Types

Marid- Marid are creatures of water and thus have an affinity for it.  They gain waterbreathing and damage resistance / water equal to their level.

Efreet- Efreet have an affinity for fire.  They may use the burning hands spell as a breath weapon once a day, and gain fire resistance equal to their level.

Ghul- The Ghul are Efreeti who have passed into the spirit realm and returned.  They are forever tainted by death, and gain the ability to drain life from anything living they touch.  On a successful touch attack they drain d6 hp from a living target.

Shaitan- Shaitan are the most hated and feared of the djinn, because they are the most alien.  They are native to the dream realm, and consider trips into the mortal realm interesting jaunts.  They enjoy tormenting and tricking mortals, often to the point of getting the unfortunates to kill others or themselves.
