The characters live in a small mining village in north eastern Valys called Kent’s Caves. The town derives it’s name from a series of iron rich mines in the foothills of the Gharatan mountains. Unfortunately, when the war ended so did the demand for steel.
The intervening years haven’t been kind to the town. More and more people have moved away, leaving a few hundred souls to eke out a living as farmers, trappers fishermen or woodcutters. The town is completely self-sufficient and almost never sees visitors.
The nearest town of any consequence is Canton Falls, nearly 200 miles away. It’s a two week journey through rough foothills, or three weeks if the travellers want to risk the plains. These plains are dangerous, because of the large Orokh tribes that roam them.
The Irelaine river runs down from the mountains just north of town, which provides the village with fresh water and an abunance of fish. It also serves as a means of transportation, and was used to ferry enchanted marble downriver to Canton Falls.
