The Lake, as it is known to sailors and fishermen, dominates the center of Hasra. It is larger than the South Sea, but retains it’s name because it is fresh water. The Lake provides water, food and a relatively safe means of travel for thousands of fishermen and sailors that live in the towns dotting its shores.
Yet the lake is also far from benevolent. It is home to the deep, a dangerous stretch of water wise travellers avoid. These waters are thick with fresh water sharks, overgrown monsters and the highly feared Sahuagan. Those who dare the deep are rarely seen again.
This is why most captains stick to the shoreline. It means a longer trek to bring goods to market, but it is far safer than the alternative. Sharks can grow as long as fifty feet and are not shy about attacking vessels, so it’s best to stick to shallow waters.
Despite this limitation sailing the coast saves a great deal of time over land based travel. It is also far safer, as House Teophilus ruthlessly hunts any pirate foolish enough to trouble their waters. They use fire dreamer slaves to divine the location of any pirates they can’t easily track, and their retribution is always swift and final.
The eastern side of the lake is dominated by the island of Teophilus, which is where the bulk of their fleet is usually concentrated. The western side is controlled by the Hasran capital, which is situated along the shoreline. The northern side is controlled by House Enestius, while the south is jointly patrolled by House Valys and House Ildonis.
